Brown Gyal Living was born out of our love for gifting as we’re both from the Hospitality and Tourism industry, and we’d always ensure that our clients had a takeaway from their experience in The Bahamas. Working in a fast-paced environment, we understood the importance of and placed a high value on self-care and being able to unwind from the stressors of our everyday lives; and as we both love aromatherapy, it was paramount for us to intertwine the two.

Therefore, we researched and poured ourselves into a brand that we can resonate with and incorporate into our lifestyle. Hence, we wanted BGL to be recognised as a lifestyle brand and with each gift box, a bespoke experience awaits you in the privacy of your own home. However, it did not only stop there for us. We wanted to ensure that Brown Gyal Living captured our truest essence and ensured that the feelings and thoughts evoked were ones that were not only representative of two Bahamian gyals with a ‘dolla and a dream’ but also, one that everyone could resonate with. The depiction of our gyal (our logo) tells a story. One that says we’re your everyday Bahamian gyals – we’re womanish, biggety, hard headed and ‘skrong’. But not only do we possess those cultural qualities distinctive in Bahamian women alike, we wanted to hone in on the fact that we’re all women, daughters, mothers, sisters and friends. We want you to be able to see “us” – two proud Bahamian gyals and know that we get it and we’re here to assist you by pouring love and light into our gift to you.

With an increase in mental health issues, we truly believe that decompressing, creating a sense of zen in your space and promoting self care are key elements to restoring peace within itself. It is a goal of ours to create a safe space for you with our commitment to mindfulness and sustainability by utilising clean scents, environmentally friendly products to ensure clean, soot free burns and packaging for recyclability and reusability. We care about our carbon footprint and doing our part for a safer tomorrow.

Since we’ve launched in December 2020, we have been overwhelmed by the support received from many and the recognition of being a brand that’s not only representative of who we are as woman; but also, for others to resonate with our lifestyle brand as well. It’s truly an outpour of love for us as with each candle poured, sugar scrub cube made and soothing salved mixed, we want to share that joy and peace that overwhelms us with you. We want you to feel the love and warmth that each item is packaged with. As we have expanded our product offerings since Winter 2020 from candles, reed diffusers, car diffusers, shower steamers and facial botanical steams; we now offer soothing salves, botanical bath salts and sugar scrub cubes. We also look to further expand and incorporate more unisex scented products in the near future.
